Getting VA Disability Compensation means you can also get help from many other benefits, programs, and services for veterans.
Arizona Department of Veterans’ Services (ADVS)
The Arizona Department of Veterans' Services helps Arizona veterans and their families with information, resources, and support. Call 1-602-255-3373 or find your local ADVS office. ADVS offers:

- The Arizona Military Family Relief Fund giving financial aid to active duty service members, veterans and their families for unexpected financial hardships caused by the service member’s military service.

Other Benefits and Programs
Depending on your level of disability and other factors, once you get VA Disability Compensation you may also qualify for other state and federal benefits.
Benefit Payments:
- Concurrent Retirement and Disability Pay (CDRP)
- Combat-Related Special Compensation (CRSC)
- VA Dependency and Indemnity Compensation (DIC) for survivors (in some cases) for a non-service-connected death
- Special Monthly Compensation (SMC) for the loss (or loss of use of) specific organs or limbs as a result of military service; you can only get this extra payment if you also get VA Disability Compensation benefits.

The Veteran Services program of the Arizona Department of Economic Security (DES) helps veterans and their eligible spouses find job and job training.
The BeConnected Career Navigation program offers specialized support, resources, and career opportunities to service members, veterans, and their family members through a statewide network of employers.
Hiring preference for qualified and disabled veterans wanting to work for the State of Arizona; the state hosts Veterans’ Hiring Events. - Federal contracting jobs for service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses.
General:
- Waiver of VA home loan funding fee
- Option to buy low-cost Veterans Affairs Life Insurance (VALife)
- VA automobile allowance for disability modification
- VA burial benefits, including burial expenses for service-connected death, burial and funeral expenses for non-service-connected death, and a burial plot allowance.
- VA clothing allowance, if needed because of prosthetic use or certain skin disabilities.
- Disabled parking privileges
If the VA rates your disability or disabilities as “total and permanent,” you may qualify for some other programs, including:
- Health insurance, called CHAMPVA, for certain dependents
- Survivors and Dependents Educational Assistance (DEA) for a spouse or dependent children
- Eligibility for a Uniformed Services Identification and Privilege Card
- Commissary and exchange privileges
- Forgiveness of federal student loans
- Specially Adapted Housing Grants, and
- Veterans Mortgage Life Insurance (VMLI).
Usually you can still work if you get VA Disability Compensation, unless you get extra payments based on Individual Unemployability (IU). If you get IU benefits, you typically cannot have a job unless you earn less than the Federal Poverty Guidelines (FPG) or you work in a sheltered environment (you don’t have to meet the same standards as other employees in the same job). If you get IU, you need to be careful even if you are working as a volunteer. If the VA decides that the type and amount of unpaid work that you are doing shows that you are employable, your IU benefits can be taken away.
